Thank you to everyone who traveled to Albany,
despite the weather to participate in
NYAIL's 2017 Legislative Day!
Despite the snowy weather, we had a great turnout at yesterday’s Legislative Day with over 150 NYAIL attendees. Several Legislators spoke at the opening program including Assemblywoman Didi Barrett, Chair of the Assembly Task Force for People with Disabilities; Assemblymember David Weprin, Former Chair of the Assembly Task Force for People with Disabilities; Assemblymember Aileen Gunther, Chair of the Assembly Mental Health Committee and Assemblymember Richard Gottfried, Chair of the Assembly Health Committee. We presented NYAIL’s annual Independent Living Champion award to Assemblymember Gottfried, and later in the day to Senator Hannon, Chair of the Senate Health Committee, both for their all work (past and future!) on health issues.
As part of their remarks, Assemblymembers Barrett and Gunther announced they are cosponsoring a sign on letter in support of increased IL funding! If you were unable to make it yesterday, please reach out to your majority member (Democratic) Assemblymembers TODAY and urge them to sign on to the Barrett & Gunther letter on IL funding and to the Lavine letter in support of the Visitability Tax credit. A copy of the Lavine letter was included in our Legislative packets delivered to every office and was attached to our email to the network Friday.
As previously reported, Senator Seward is also circulating a letter on IL funding in the Senate, so if you have not yet done so please reach out to Republican and IDC member Senators to urge they sign on. Sign on letters are expected to be submitted this week.
Thank you again for all your support in making Legislative Day a success!
Please join us for Legislative Day again next year- Monday February 12, 2018.
